This was an opportunity for delegates to discuss and share experience and information on cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in overcoming war consequences, so as to apply in other countries in the world.
The seminar also helped the U.S. make policy to promote cooperation in this field in the coming time, while discussing relations between the U.S. and ASEAN member states as well as visions to promote the regional peace and security.
During the event, Senior Colonel Le Dinh Vu reported the situation of pollution of landmines, toxic chemicals/dioxin after the war in Vietnam and the outcomes of Vietnam-U.S. cooperation in this field.
He also underscored that in the time to come, functional agencies of both sides should boost cooperation in this field, including mine action, completing the first phase of dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa airport, and improving Agent Orange/dioxin victims’ living quality, to name but a few.
