Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang called on Spain to continue supporting efforts to persuade the European Commission (E.C.) to lift its “yellow card” warning against Viet Nam's seafood exports over illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. She also urged Spain to encourage E.U. member states to ratify the Viet Nam–E.U Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) at an early date, creating a favorable legal framework for businesses from both countries to expand investment and business activities.
On regional and international issues, the two sides reaffirmed their support for multilateralism, respect for international law and the U.N. Charter, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. They agreed to maintain close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, particularly the U.N. and within the ASEAN–E.U. strategic partnership.
Regarding the East Sea (also known as South China Sea) issue, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight. They emphasized that disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
