The event was attended by U.K. Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, along with ambassadors and defence attachés from various countries in Vietnam.

At the event, Ambassador Iain Frew expressed his delight at the recent upgrade of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, following Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland two weeks earlier. He affirmed that this marked a historic milestone in diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang affirms that Vietnam and the U.K. have built a strong, trustworthy and effective partnership.

According to the diplomat, the U.K. and Vietnam have achieved remarkable progress in green and inclusive energy transition, strengthened cooperation in education, and elevated bilateral trade to new heights. Within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, both sides will continue to build on these achievements, aiming for security, prosperity, and sustainable development for both countries.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highlighted the U.K.’s profound influence on the development of human civilization over many centuries. Under the reign of King Charles III, she noted, the cherished values of humanity and dedication to community service have been carried forward, reflected clearly in His Majesty’s commitments to environmental protection, biodiversity, climate adaptation and sustainable green development.

Vietnam highly appreciates the King’s invaluable contributions and vision, she said, believing that these shared values form an important foundation for both nations to further advance cooperation for global peace and prosperity.

Reviewing the key achievements in bilateral ties, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that over more than half a century, Vietnam and the U.K. have built a strong, trustworthy, and effective relationship. The U.K. is currently Vietnam’s third-largest export market in Europe, while Vietnam is the U.K.’s second-largest market in ASEAN. In finance, the U.K. remains a vital partner in Vietnam’s efforts to develop an international financial center. Education and human resource development continue to be bright spots in the overall partnership.

She underscored that such accomplishments are rooted in mutual trust, understanding, and shared values nurtured by the leaders and peoples of both countries over decades. She expressed hope that Vietnam and the U.K. will work closely in the coming period to develop an action plan implementing the content of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ushering bilateral cooperation into a new phase of growth.
