Exports to the USA reached US$ 1.379 billion in May, up by 5 per cent against the previous month and 24.2 per cent from the same time last year, according to the General Department of Customs.

Among these exports, garments still took the lead with its export turnover of US$ 546 million, while footwear came second with US$ 174 million, with timber and wooden products ranking third at US$ 117 million.

The customs agency said that the countrys export turnover stood at US$ 6.155 billion over the first 5 months, up by 22.5 per cent, year on year.

Meanwhile, imports from the USA also saw a rise in May, up by 18.5 per cent from the previous month, to US$ 385 million from US$ 325 million.

Vietnam mainly imports machinery, mechanics, cotton as well as various spare parts.

Notably, Vietnam enjoyed an export surplus of US$ 4.386 billion over the first 5 months of the year, up by 21 per cent year on year.
