Vietnam becomes world’s 8th largest seafood exporter

PANO – According to the Vietnamese Statistics Department, Vietnam has become the world’s eighth largest seafood exporter.

The country earned US$ 3.75 billion from seafood exports in 2007, and US$ 4.27 billion from the seafood sector from the beginning of this year to November.

Instead of the previous 18 seafood businesses recognized by European importers, the country now has 247 recognized businesses exporting products to Europe.

Such an achievement was highlighted at a conference entitled “Evaluation on Integration Effects on the Vietnamese Economy after Two-Years of Membership in WTO”, which was jointly held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ho Chi Minh National Politics and Administration Institute on November 28^th.
