Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP), one of the leading terminal operator in Vietnam, has won a contract to operate Cai Mep – Thi Vai international container berth for 30 years.
The leasing contact was signed between SNP and the Vietnam Maritime Administration in Hanoi on December 30.
Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex is located in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria- Vung Tau. It is able to accommodate the vessels of up to 110,000 DWT (9,000 Teus). With service quality of SNP and the advantageous location, the terminal will make important contribution to the marine development and foster economic development in the region.
The Cai Mep – Thi Vai port complex opened in late January after four years of construction. The project, worth nearly 13 trillion VND (611 million USD), was financed by Japan’s official development assistance loans and Vietnam’s reciprocal capital.
The Cai Mep terminal consists of two piers of 600 metres in length. It can handle vessels of up to 110,000 DWT and has an annual capacity of around 700,000 TEUs.
The Thi Vai terminal also has two piers, and can handle ships of 50,000 tonnes. It has a capacity of 1.6-2 million tonnes per year.
