Several professional associations have made proposals to build customs warehouses overseas to increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products when they are exported to foreign markets like the USA, EU and China.
Secretary-General of the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas), Dang Hoang Giang, said that, if Vietnam had customs warehouses in other countries, Vietnamese agricultural exports could enjoy many advantages, including preferential policies of imported countries.
According to Vinacas, Vietnam exports some 190,000 tons of cashew nuts to traditional markets, namely the USA, EU, China and Australia, but the exporters are often forced to sell at a low price as they do not have stores to preserve their exports.
“If we build customs warehouses in The EU, for example, exporters can receive benefits from policies of local governments and can actively reserve goods and only sell them when prices go up,” said Mr. Giang.
Secretary-General of the Aquaculture Export and Processing Association (Vasep), Truong Dinh Hoe, shared this view in saying that leaders of the association have discussed the issue several times but the project has so far been on the shelf due to the shortage of investment and lack of knowledge of regulations.
According to him, the Government should back associations to realise the project by providing capital and supporting them with legal procedures.
