At the launching ceremony of  5G technology

The announcement was made at the event organized to mark its five years of operation in Peru. Bitel has successfully piloted 5G services in the country.

Accordingly, the data connection speed on terminal devices reached up to 1,506Mbps, much higher than the designated speed of the 4G LTE network.

In his remarks, Bitel Director General Phan Hoang Viet affirmed that the company targets to take up 18 percent of the host country’s market share by 2020 while investing in the latest technologies to serve its customers.

The President of the Peruvian Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) Rafael Muente Schwarz congratulated Bitel on its achievements over the past five years.

The senior official highly appreciated Viettel’s sub-brand for providing services to millions of Peruvians, adding that Bitel’s arrival has boosted competiveness and development in the country’s telecommunications market.

Since its debut, Bitel has become popular with Peruvian subscribers for its attractive services and products with competitive prices. Notably, the company was named the most favored telecom service in Peru.

Under its strategy “To give first,” Bitel has paid due attention to building its fiber optic cable network and base transceiver stations (BTSs). At present, the company has the largest telecom infrastructure in Peru with over 35,000km of cable network, nearly 5,300 3G BTSs, and almost 3,400 4G BTSs.

Previously, in May 2019, Viettel conducted the first call on the 5G mobile phone network in Vietnam.

Apart from Peru, from July 2019, the military-run business launched 5G networks in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos.
