Accordingly, the military's football team will officially be known as The Cong - Viettel. The announcement and presentation of this decision are scheduled for the afternoon of November 21. This decision aligns with the desire of the club's fans and admirers of the Viettel FC.

On September 23, 1954, the Military Sports Delegation was established under the direction of General Nguyen Chi Thanh, who was Director of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Vietnam People's Army at that time. The initial force of The Cong club consisted of 23 officers and soldiers from the Infantry Officer Training School No.1, divided into three teams: Football, basketball, and volleyball teams.

Since its establishment, the club always received attention and guidance from the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense. The club not only gained remarkable domestic and international accomplishments but also contributed to promoting the spirit of sportsmanship inspired by Uncle Ho (Ho Chi Minh) throughout the armed forces and the community.

Due to the continuous growth of other clubs and various factors, The Cong Football Club could not maintain stable achievements and was relegated in 2004. Going through challenging phases, the club underwent name changes from The Cong - Viettel, then losing the “The Cong” appellation and being renamed the Viettel FC in 2009.

For nearly 15 years, under the strong investment from the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), the Viettel Football Club has focused on developing a modern and professional football environment. Viettel FC clinched the champion of the Vietnamese National Football First League (V-League 2) in 2018 and, within just two years of participating in the Night Wolf V-League 1, remarkably secured the championship title.
