Having the same points but smaller indexes, China’s Lu Shanglei was a runner-up, followed by Krishnan Sasikiran of India. 

Liem’s medal, together with Nguyen Quoc Nguyen’s gold in three-cushion billiards later in the day, made up nine gold medals for the Vietnam sports delegation at AIMAG 2017.

He and his teammates will continue to compete in the rapid and blitz chess and team events in the following days.
