Hosting the reigning champions at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi in their first match of the Lunar New Year 2026, The Cong-Viettel FC entered the game with confidence. Despite fielding their strongest lineup, including striker Xuan Son, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh struggled to impose themselves in the first half as Viettel controlled much of the play.

Early in the second half, the visitors stepped up their attacking efforts in search of a breakthrough. In the 61st minute, Xuan Son received a through pass from Lam Ti Phong and managed a shot despite losing his footing, but goalkeeper Van Viet reacted well to deny him.

Although not overly aggressive in attack, The Cong-Viettel  knew how to take advantage of opportunities. In the 69th minute, midfielder Khuat Van Khang’s free kick forced Nam Dinh goalkeeper Nguyen Manh to punch the ball clear. Le Quoc Nhat Nam followed up with a precise finish into the net. The assistant referee initially flagged for offside, but after a VAR review, the goal was awarded, giving the hosts a decisive 1-0 lead.
