Russia’s martial arts to be popularized in Vietnam
PANO - “Sambo is Russia’s modern martial arts which was developed by the Soviet Red Army in the early 20th century and handed down to the country’s current armed forces. I hope that the sport will become popular in Vietnamese localities.”
Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin V. Vnukov said that during a meeting with Vuong Bich Thang, Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, on March 28 in Hanoi.

During the meeting, the host thanked the Russian sports agencies for their valuable support for Vietnam’s sports over the past time, including sending their experts, training Vietnamese athletes and those with disabilities, and providing equipment to Vietnam. The host believed that Sambo will be quickly popularized to the Vietnamese martial arts lovers and soon become their favorite sport. He voiced his hope that as a Russian ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Konstantin V. Vnukov will contribute to the development of the two countries’ sports.
For his part, the Russian Ambassador expressed his delight at the development of the two countries’ cooperation in sports over the past time and expected that in the future Vietnamese Sambo fighters will participate in sports festivals and training courses in Russia. He promised that as an ambassador he will try his best to strengthen Vietnam-Russia cooperation in this field.
On the occasion, the Russian ambassador invited Vietnam to the Asia-Pacific Kid Games to be held in Russian this July.
At the meeting, the ambassador and representatives of Russia’s Sports Ministry presented martial arts outfits to Vietnamese athletes and referees.
