Workshop with Thai ethnic hand embroidery master
Workshop on Thai ethnic hand embroidery, an heirloom technique mastered by Thai ethnic artisans in Quy Chau district, the Central province of Nghe An, will be held on July 1.
The workshop will be conducted by master weaver Sam Thi Tinh, a Thai ethnic woman who was born in Hoa Tien traditional brocade village in Quy Chau.
She grew up with her grand-mother, mother and other Thai women who were expert artisans. She now lives in Hanoi to sustain and develop the traditional craftsmanship for Hoa Tien Brocade Cooperative led by her mom since its foundation in 2010.
During the workshop, attendees will learn how to embroider traditional Thai patterns on their textiles and learn about the meaning of the patterns such as mythical animals (dragon, phoenix), wild animals (elephant, horse, deer, turtle, tiger), plants, flowers and objects of daily life.
The workshop, which will take place from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at No.203, second floor, Apartment Building CT5A, Me Tri Thuong, Nam Tu Liem district, will be translated into English and French.
It costs participants VND 500,000 (USD 25), including necessary materials used in the workshop.
