“Pho”, a popular kind of noodle soup in Vietnam, has become one of 2,500 new entries in the latest Shorter Oxford English Dictionary published in Britain and the United States on September 20.
Most of the foreign words added to the new edition of the book are related to food, such as churro (from Spanish), kheer (from India), and tataki (Japanese).
The dictionary also includes new words on climate changing like carbon footprint and emissions trading.
New entries must have appeared at least five times in five different publications over the past five years to be included, said Angus Stevenson, editor of the dictionary.
