An installation art exhibition under the theme “the Sea” has lately taken place in Herne Gallery in Bochum city, Germany.

The exhibition was a special one because it was made by palm-leaf conical hats of Vietnam.

These hats were painted blue, pearl and violet and then put on glasses at different directions, forming a lively and mysterious sea. The sea’s background is collage paintings, creating a three-dimensional space that makes viewers feel like being on a boat crossing the sea.

The inspiration of featuring a sea from palm-leaf conical hats, as painter Angelika Herker said, is from her visit to Vietnam in 2006. She passed by a lot of wonderful rivers and beaches where she was deeply impressed with the multi-functional palm-leaf conical hats of the Vietnamese women.

To debut such an exhibition was not an easy job for Angelika Herker. She had to order typical conical hats from the trade representative office of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany and then create a panorama of the sea on these hats by installation method.

Angelika Herker’s efforts finally paid off. The unique exhibition won the hearts of art-lovers and was highly applauded by artists.
