Traditional cake making contest held in Phu Tho
PANO - A traditional “Chung” (square glutinous rice) cake and “Giay” (glutinous rice dumplings) cake making contest was held at the national special historical relic site of Hung Kings’ Temple on April 8.
It is a unique cultural event held annually to serve visitors and locals on the occasion of the Hung Kings’ Temple Festival.

This year event witnessed the participation of 13 teams from 13 localities of Phu Tho province.
“Chung” and “Giay” cakes have been among traditional offerings of the worship ritual to pay tribute to the ancestors since the Hung Kings era. The traditional cake making contest is also held to preserve and promote unique values of the cultural heritage of the Hung Kings.
The same day, Hung Lo commune People’s Committee held a ceremony to receive the decisions of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to recognize the Hung Lo Temple Festival as the national intangible cultural heritage and the Hung Lo community-based tourist site.
