The festival, vital to enhance the position of Hue ancient capital, is expected to attract the largest-ever number of handicraft artisans and craft villages.

Vice Chairman of the Hue city People’s Committee Nguyen Dang Thach stressed that the regular organisation of such an event aims to preserve and develop traditional crafts and trade villages, contributing to boosting the local economic and tourism development. 

After six years, the festival has affirmed its reputation amongst local people, tourists and craftsmen nationwide, he said. 

As many as 13 groups of crafts and over 300 artisans from famous craft villages nationwide have registered to participate in the festival, which will see the presence of countries twinning with Hue. 

The highlight of the event will be an “Ao dai” festival in Truong Tien Bridge on April 30 night, displaying collections of designers from Hanoi, Hue and HCM City. 

Numerous cultural activities such as a cuisine festival featuring specialties of Hue and other regions of the country, art performances and a ceremony to honour the traditional crafts of Vietnam will also be held. 

There will be a fashion show introducing collections of 19 designers from Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Spain, along with an exhibition of products from traditional trade villages, film screenings, and tourism promotion programmes.
