It is said that the so-called Saigon “sitting-plump” cafés have been opened some years ago. Such kind of tasting coffee has attracted a lot of people, including foreign ones at all ages.
The answer for questions, such as “why do not you have a coffee in an air-conditioned café?” or “why do you not choose a nice café with wonderful views?”, is always smiles because coffee-lovers are keen on that. Therefore, the so-called Saigon “sitting-plump” coffee is part of the living pace in Saigon and part of memories of the big economic hub of Vietnam’s citizens.
Walking around Saigon, one could find a good place in the Park April 30th, near Madonna Church to experience “sitting-plump” Saigon coffee. There, they could take a good view on modern and old buildings in a fresh and cool space while enjoying a cup of delicious coffee. Sitting-plump café in the park is always crowded at weekends.
Duc Cuong, an IT worker in precinct 1, often spends 40 minutes every morning to sip coffee here before his work starts. As a regular customer, he is given a newspaper to read at place. “We consider it the biggest café in Saigon because of its broad space”, wittily said Cuong.
It is said that such a café was opened when the offline movement was flourishing. Besides, more and more architecture and arts students came here to find good ideas for their lessons and to exchange knowledge. So, sitting-plump café was launched to meet the growing demand.
Not far from the Park April 30th, on Alexander de Rhodes Street, District 1, near the Independence Palace, there exists a sitting-plump café with a number of customers who are office staff, economic and architecture students. Duy, a desk worker often has a short break here to taste coffee and to contemplate sunlight beaming through leaf canopies. Meanwhile, Hoang, a senior at Architecture University, comes here every afternoon. He shared that “just over 20 meters away, noise from Pasteur and Pham Ngoc Thach streets could not reach here, which makes me feel pleased”.
Not only young people, but also the elderly and even foreign visitors are keen on sitting-plump café to tasting coffee. There, they could see vehicles travelling on streets, Saigon citizens and modern and old structures, namely Diamond Plaza, Madonna Church and Independence Palace. Some film-making teams also eye these very simple but special cafés for their backgrounds. So do amateur photographers.
It is wonderful to choose those café for enjoying a cup of coffee or other drinks, at a cost ranging from VND 7,000 to 10,000 each, in fresh atmosphere, with music from their own cell phones or sometimes sound from violin or harmonica nearby.
However, one should be ready for run as it suddenly rains.
* Useful notes: You should leave your vehicles at Hoa Binh school, in the City Central Post Office or Diamond Plaza before walking to taste sitting-plump coffee on Han Thuyen Street.
Other sitting-plump cafés are in Le Van Tam Park, along Nguyen Dinh Chieu-Pasteur streets and opposite Madonna Church.
