New rice ceremony of M’nong Gar performed
PANO – The new rice ceremony of M’nong Gar in Dak Lak province was performed at the cultural center of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism on March 12, as part of activities to mark the 44th anniversary of the Buon Ma Thuot Victory and echo the 7th Buon Ma Thoat Coffee Festival 2019.
The ceremony, including long-standing cultural rituals and festive activities, was to promote solidarity among family members and villagers as well as connections between people and nature.
Before festive activities such as gong performances and dancing, patriarchs, shamans, artisans, members of the gong teams, and dancers from the M’nong Gar ethnic minority group performed traditional rituals and presented offerings to gods.
The rituals were held to pray for health, favorable weather conditions, bumper crops, and happiness for local people.
The traditional ceremony of the M’nong Gar ethnic minority people is a practical activity to promote the values of the Cultural Space of Gong in the Central Highlands - an intangible heritage of the humanity.
