First yacht race off Phu Quoc Island

PANO – The 2016 open Kien Giang – Phu Quoc yacht race was kicked off by the Kien Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism and Thien Vu Advertisment JSC on May 5th at Dinh Cau beach, Duong Dong town, Phu Quoc island district.

This was part of activities for national tourism year 2016 in Phu Quoc – Mekong Delta. The event drew 54 crews from 27 teams, including three international teams and three host province’s teams.

The sail boats used during the race were manufactured by Viet-Czech Shipyard JSC.

After the opening ceremony, racers competed at Dinh Cau beach to pick the best teams for the final round. The event attracted nearly 1,000 tourists and fans.

Hosting the event for the first time, the provincial authority hoped to fascinate both racers and tourists. They also hoped to promote sail boat racing to make it a popular sport in Kien Giang province, as well as to encourage this movement in other provinces.
