PANO - The newly updated edition of the book “Perfect Spy X6”, revealing the life and revolutionary career of Vietnamese agent Pham Xuan An towards the national liberation, was released in Hanoi on February 18th.
The event was held by Tri Viet (First News) Company, in the presence of American author Larry Berman, a historian, Emeritus Professor at the University of California, dean of the Honours College at Georgia State University, and author of the well-known book “No Peace, No Honour: Nixon, Kissinger and Betrayal in Vietnam”, a valuable document about the final period of the war against American invaders in Vietnam.
The book, “Perfect Spy: The Incredible Double Life of Pham Xuan An, Time Magazine Reporter & Vietnamese Communist Agent”, made its first debut in Vietnam in 2007.
6 years later, an updated version, “Perfect Spy X6: The Incredible Double Life of Pham Xuan An; Reuters, Time, New York Herald Tribune Reporter & Vietnamese Strategic Intelligence General”, was released in Ho Chi Minh City in September 2013, selling 25,000 copies. It unveiled some information which has never made public before.
When Pham Xuan An was still alive, he asked author Larry Berman to keep the secret and only release them at each period of time after he passed away. Professor Larry Berman kept his promise, flew to Vietnam 18 times and spent 5 years collecting materials before releasing the new publication.
The fully-updated edition of “Perfect Spy X6”, introduced the second time in Vietnam, would be soon adapted for a detective serial and a 120- minute film, Larry Berman said.
In the book’s preface, the author wrote that he was really happy that the English version of the book was translated and introduced in Vietnam. He would like to share his dream with the readers. Every time he looked at the wild goose migrating in the sky, he would know that his friend, Pham Xuan An was smiling.
