A scene from "Porcelain".

The Zeeuws Museum in the Netherlands has shot a film about Vietnamese ceramics to screen at its special exhibition.

Based on the idea “how to effectively introduce the history of collections at the museum to visitors,” instead of exhibiting items, the Zeeuws Museum has cooperated with a group of Danish artists named Superflex and the Propeller Group to make a three-episode television film named “Porcelain.”

The film was shot in Vietnam since May 2009, with the participation of Vietnamese actors like Hanh Thuy, Nguyen Hau, Tri Minh, Nam Long, Vu Pham Diem My, Duc Nha and Mai Thanh. The museum also lent the film crew some antiques as propsin the movie.

The film revolves around Khue, a young Vietnamese writer seeking her true love. Once she visits an antique shop, Khue is enchanted by a vase. At that time, Khue is stuck in a love triangle with Trung and Tri Minh.

Through her articles and the ancient vase, Khue discovered that she is more deeply connected with a girl in the past and she has to face difficult choices. The modern story is interpolated with historical events about a Portuguese ship that transported porcelains from Asia to Europe in 1602. The journey was interrupted because of a Dutch pirate.

Among rare ceramics from the ship is the ancient vase that Khue saw in the antique shop, the link to locating the San Jago ship.

The movie will be screened at the Zeeuws’ exhibition from October 3, 2009 to February 8, 2010. Through this film, visitors can learn about the history of the Netherlands, the museum and the beauty of Vietnamese ceramics. This film will be shown on Dutch and Vietnamese TV channels.
