The national festival of traditional Tuong (the Vietnamese Classical Drama) will be held in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, from April 25th to 30th.

The festival will draw the participation of seven theatres and troupes, including the Vietnam Tuong Theatre, Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theatre, Dao Tan Tuong Theatre, Khanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theatre, Ho Chi Minh City’s Boi Art Theatre, Hue Royal Traditional Arts Theatre and Thanh Hoa Tuong Troupe.

The artists will perform many classical plays, such as “Son Hau”, “Dao Phi Phung”, “Hong Son’s flame” and “Rebel’s Dao Tam Xuan”.

So, this year’s event is a playground only for the artists, and all other factors, related to arrangement, décor, light and music, will be skipped in order to focus on the artists’ performances on the stage.

The organising board also requires that the artists must be under 40 years old in order to create chances and encourage young actors and actresses to bring into play all their ability and love to the “Tuong” drama as well as find out young talented figures.

After this festival, the Performing Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expects to hold a young talented contest for only play-writers and directors in Ho Chi Minh City, said Head of the Department.
