The novel, “Tieng khoc cua nang Ut” (“The Cry of Ms. Ut”), brought writer Nguyen Chi Trung, the 83-year-old Vietnamese veteran, the prestigious S.E.A. Write Award 2011.
The award was presented on February 16th by the Thai Royal Family.
The novel, written in 2007, a prize-winner of the Literature Award of Writers’ Association in 2008, features the life of a girl named Ut and the Tra Bong uprising in Quang Ngai Province in August 1959.
The S.E.A. Write Award is given annually by the Thai Royal Family to writers in Thailand and other ASEAN members.
So far, various Vietnamese writers, including Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Cao Duy Son, Nguyen Nhat Anh, Ma Van Khang, To Huu and Nguyen Khai, have brought Vietnam this honour.
