Medical experts complete COVID-19 fight missions in Laos
PANO - The Vietnamese medical expert delegation has concluded their nearly one-month stay in Laos to help the country control the COVID-19 pandemic, as revealed by the Ministry of Health.
During their stay in Laos, the medical experts conducted field trips to Champasak, Savannakhet provinces and Vientiane. They visited communes and villages with high number of COVID-19 patients, quarantine sites, testing units, field hospitals, provincial general hospitals, commune medical stations and private chemists’.

They also joined health consultation and gave treatment to severe COVID-19 patients. In addition, they held conferences to share experience in COVID-19 prevention and control, diagnosis, control of infection, management over COVID-19 cases, and hygiene at establishments treating COVID-19 patients.
Based on their experience in the home country and facts from field trips in Laos, the Vietnamese delegation developed approaches to boosting COVID-19 prevention and control in Laos, preventing cross-infection and resurgence of COVID-19.
They suggested the Lao side build scenarios to cope with the pandemic risks in line with each locality’s socio-politico-economic, and people’s health conditions. They also recommended forming a group of experts to support the national steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control in collecting correct and reliable information to help the committee issue right decisions.
The Vietnamese medical experts also noted the need to boost dissemination of information about COVID-19 prevention and control measures and to shorten tracing time, promptly collect COVID-19 samples and set up mobile testing rooms.
The timely and effective support from the Vietnamese medical experts has helped Laos gradually control COVID-19 and was highly appreciated by the Lao side. This has contributed to consolidating the close ties between the two nations.
