Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said at a press conference on January 5 that the priorities include a people-oriented and people-centered ASEAN; peace and stability in the region; maritime security and cooperation; inclusive innovation and growth; and ASEAN as a model of regionalism and a global player.
The theme of ASEAN 2017 is “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”, Andanar added.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Enrique Manalo, said the milestone event is an occasion for ASEAN to reflect on its success and achievements during the last 50 years and to prepare for new challenges ahead in the region.
He noted that, to carry out the ASEAN 2017 priorities, the Philippines will be hosting around 100 meetings throughout cities and regions of the country.
