An international conference will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 15th-16th to discuss the current status of and future prospects for cooperation between Vietnam, ASEAN and Russia.

According to Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, which is hosting the event, the partnership between Vietnam, ASEAN and Russia has yet to reach its full potential, especially with regard to economy, trade, culture, education, science and technology.

ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh (L) met with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in July, 2014.

The event is part of ongoing efforts to assess the future of the relations between ASEAN and Russia, as well as the role Vietnam plays as a bridge between the two, he said.

The conference will also focus on devising breakthrough measures and recommendations to boost the relationship between Vietnam, ASEAN and Russia, contributing to the development of the parties involved, and to cooperation and progress in the Asian-Pacific region and the world at large, Tan said.

It will comprise three discussions, examining the significance of Vietnamese, ASEAN and Russian relations and assessing the historical development, current status and future prospects of the ties, he noted.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh are scheduled to attend the event, the professor added.
