The 25-meter tower with 28s.q.m flag is nearly 175 meters above sea level. This nearly VND 1 billion tower is the second of its kind built by the committee after the first one on Thoi Loi mountain, Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province.

Tho Chu Island in the southwestern waters of the nation borders Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia. The building of this national flagpole is a confirmation of the national sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.

Nguyen Minh Triet, Director of the Vietnam Student Development Centre said that it is a must to construct such a national flag tower to prove that generations of Vietnamese students always turn their hearts to the national sacred sea and islands and to encourage students to further study to build the nation.

The same day, a delegation participating in the program, “Students with National Sea and Islands”, presented gifts to people on Tho Chu Island and scholarships, worth VND 500,000 each, to 50 local students. They also offered free health check-ups and medicines to local elderly people and handed over life-jackets and national flags to island fishermen.
