The Vietnamese and Chinese delegations were led by Nguyen Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the National Border Committee under the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Zhou Jian, the representative for boundary and ocean affairs under the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively.
During the meeting, the two sides had an in-depth discussion on issues related to the sea area.
They confirmed to seriously follow common perceptions reached by the two countries’ leaders, including the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues and to gradually promoting negotiations on demarcation and a mutual win-win cooperation in the area.
They also straightforwardly debated proper control of maritime disputes, restraint exercise, and no unilateral actions taken which may complicate the situation and expand the disputes.
They agreed to soon organize the ninth round of the negotiations.
