Seminar held to raise fishermen’s awareness of national sovereignty over seas and islands
PANO - The Khanh Hoa provincial Border Guard Command on April 11 organized a seminar at Cau Bong Border Post to provide local fishermen with law knowledge, with the aim of promoting their political comprehension, responsibility for defending national sovereignty over seas and islands.
During the event, the participants were introduced to basic contents of the Law of the Sea of Vietnam and related documents, including Directive 689/CT-TTg issued on May 18, 2010 by the then Prime Minister to help minimize and avoid foreign arrest of Vietnamese fishing boats; rules for fishermen fishing at sea; situations in the East Sea (South China Sea) after the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)’s East Sea ruling; Vietnamese Party’s and State’s guidelines on addressing disputes over the national sovereignty over seas and islands.
The fishermen were also provided with other necessary information, such as strict observation of Vietnamese law while operating at sea, going fishing without infringing upon foreign waters, bringing along all necessary documents, ensuring 24/7 operation of information and communication and fishing boat surveillance devices, respecting law while taking refuge from natural disasters, and in search and rescue missions, not bringing along or trading explosives, ammunition, and other hazardous substances.
