Addressing the event, Deputy Director General of the VNAT Ha Van Sieu said Vietnam considers Japan as one of its key markets. In 2016, the country welcomed 740,000 Japanese visitors, up by 10.3 percent compared to the previous year. These figures reflect an active cooperation in tourism promotion between the two countries at all levels.

The Vietnamese government has offered visa exemption for Japanese visitors within a 15 days trip to the country since 2003, and Vietnam also hopes that the Japanese government would further ease visa requirements for Vietnamese tourists so that more people can travel to Japan, he added.

Takahashi Ayumi, head of the JNTO Representative Office in Vietnam said that Vietnam has become one of the most important international tourism markets for Japan in recent years. Specifically, Japan received about 234,000 Vietnamese visitors in 2016, up by 26% compared to 2015.

According to JNTO’s statistics, Vietnamese tourists post the highest spending in Japan with approximately JPY 237,000 per tourist.

Kanagawa prefecture is famous for many tourist sites including Yokohama harbor city, resorts, spas and hot springs in Hakone, as well as the coastal town of Kamakura.
