The launch takes place on the occasion of the fifth twinning anniversary between Hoi An and Germany’s Wernigerode city.

The project had a total investment of EUR 145,000, of which 90 percent came from the German government.

Under the project, solar panels are installed in the Song Hoai square, capable of producing 51kWh of electricity for lighting and decorations for entertainment activities like street arts, folk games, decorative lanterns, and the Cau bridge relic.

Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee Nguyen Van Son said the project contributes to deepening cooperation between Hoi An and Wernigerode cities.

In addition, it also will encourage the use of renewable energy and help to mitigate impacts of climate change, as well as develop sustainable tourism of Hoi An, turning it into an eco-city.
