Hoi An city wins National German Sustainability Award 2019
Surpassing 30 other pairs of twinned cities, Hoi An in Vietnam’s Central province of Quang Nam, and Wernigerode of Germany, won the National German Sustainability Award 2019.
This is the first time the award, presented to cities, companies and individuals in promotion of sustainable society, honored twinned city projects between German localities and foreign partners.
Hoi An and Wernigerode received EUR 30,000 in cash to finance local sustainable development projects.

The two cities inked an agreement to establish their twinned relations in 2013, agreeing to promote cooperation in economy, culture, education and the environment.
In 2016, Wernigerode joined the German Government to support EUR 170,000 for Hoi An’s construction of a solar energy-based electricity supply system to operate its sound and lighting system.
