The river is originated from small streams on the mountain range bordering Vietnam and China. It is the mainstream of two small tributaries from Phong Nam and Ngoc Con communes in Dinh Phong commune.

The section in Vietnam of the Quay Son River is surrounded by hills and golden rice fields, creating a mesmerizing scenery. The approximately 10km long road from Trung Khanh town to Phong Nam commune is ideal to contemplate rice fields in the golden color. That spectacular scenery attracts many tourists and photographers.

Apart from the beautiful scenery, visitors should not miss sticky rice, a local specialty. Grown on fertile fields along the Quay Son River, this kind of sticky rice has large, round, fragrant grains, more prominent than other types of sticky rice.

The Quay Son River is the key of the tourist route entitled “Experience local culture in the fairyland" launched in the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark with the aim of developing sustainable tourism, preserving natural landscapes and cultural heritage while introducing the beauty and traditional values of Vietnam’s border areas to international friends.

Below are several photos of golden rice season in Cao Bang taken by photographer Cong Dat.
