PANO – 18 elephants from Buon Don District on March 13th competed in categories of race, football playing and swimming across the Serepok River in the Elephant Race 2014 hosted by the district.
The race is part of activities in the Elephant Race Festival 2014 opened on March 12th in Tri A hamlet, Krong Ana commune, Buon Don district, Dac Lac province by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
During the biennial festival, visitors will experience ethnic minority groups’ traditional cultural activities, such as a prayer for elephant health, "Welcome the New Rice" ritual, buffalo killing festival and a gong performance.
The 3-day festival, part of activities in the “Central Highlands-Da Lat National Tourism Year 2014”, aims to restore traditional rituals of the Central Highlands ethnic minority groups, as well as popularize the region’s potential for tourism.
