Viettel offers free heart disease screening
PANO - The Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) and the Vietnamese Heart Fund of the Vietnam Television have jointly offered free heart disease screening and raised funds for a program named “Operation Healthy Heart” in Phu Yen and Yen Bai provinces and Can Tho and Hai Phong cities since early last month.

In Yen Bai province, on October 31 and November 1, doctors from the Hanoi Heart Hospital gave free congenital heart disease examinations for nearly 2,800 children. As a result, 37 of them with adversity in life were designated for heart surgery at the cost of over VND 2 billion supported by the “Operation Healthy Heart” program.
Earlier, 33 out of nearly 1,500 children in Phu Yen province examined by doctors from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy on October 24 and 25 were eligible to receive free heart operations. One hundred and eleven others will have their health checked regularly to have timely treatment.
After Phu Yen and Yen Bai provinces, children in Hai Phong and Can Tho cities will receive free congenital heart disease examinations on November 7-8 at the Naval Medical Institute and November 21-22 in Can Tho city’s Children’s Hospital, respectively.
Since its inception in 2008, the Viettel-launched “Operation Healthy Heart” program has organized nearly 60 free congenital heart disease screening drives. As a result, more than 6,000 children have been provided with early heart disease diagnosis and more than 5,000 of them have received free heart surgery.
