Program “Heart for you” to conduct 12 heart defect screening drives in 2019
PANO – The Military-Run Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) on June 16 said that the program “Heart for you” will officially start from June 20. Accordingly, more than 300 Viettel stores across the country will receive applications for free heart surgeries from needy families with children with heart defects.

According to Viettel, as the telecom giant has assigned all of its 1,200 stores and transaction points throughout the country to receive applications from families with child patients with heart problems, people will not have to go very far to submit their children’s medical records. Additionally, they will be instructed by Viettel staff to fill in the application form at any Viettel stores or transaction points.
According to the Ministry of Health, some 10,000 inborn heart defect cases are detected per year on average. If children with heart problems are treated early, they have more chances to recover.
But the fact is that many children with heart defects come from remote areas and poor families so few cases are not defected and treated.
The 2019 program “Heart for you” will conduct 12 heart defect screening drives, doubling that in 2018. Another good thing of the 2019 program is that medical missions will go to mountainous and remote localities to conduct screening tests, which helps people save travelling time.
The program “Heart for you,” which is run and funded by Vietnam Television and Viettel, aims to offer free heart surgeries for children under 16 years old from poor families with heart problems. Over the past 10 years, the program conducted heart defect screening tests for some 100,000 children across the country, and offered free heart surgeries and already healed more than 4,500 child patients.
