Vietnamese women’s role and status increasingly improved
PANO – A national-level seminar to comprehensively review the 25-year implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action took place on May 6 in Hai Phong city.
The seminar was held by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
According to the UN Women, Vietnam has promoted gender mainstreaming in law formulation and enforcement; issued specific programs and projects on gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence; conducted information about gender equality and women's empowerment in the whole society.
Thanks to these efforts, the role and status of the Vietnamese women have been significantly improved.
However, Vietnam has now faced difficulties and challenges, for example gender inequality, violence and sexual abuse against women and girls.
The UN Women Head of Office in Vietnam Elisa Fernandez Saenz affirmed that the review process of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action would provide a good opportunity for Vietnam to fulfill its commitments and actions for gender equality and women's empowerment.
The UN Women would continue to support Vietnam in this area, she added.
