Accordingly, the two Vietnamese higher education institutions, namely the Vietnam National University (VNU) - Hanoi and the VNU-Ho Chi Minh City, have been included in the list. VNU-Hanoi ranks 1,059th on the list and the VNU-Ho Chi Minh City is at No. 1,176. In addition, Ton Duc Thang University is also named on the list with no ranking.

In Asia, the VNU-Hanoi stands at No. 275 and the VNU-Ho Chi Minh City at No. 322. This is the sixth time the US News & World Report has compiled the list.

For the 2020 list, the US authority in education rankings evaluated nearly 1,600 schools, of which 1,500 from 81 countries and territories were ranked. The ranking is based on 13 indicators that measure the schools’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations.
The top 10 schools in the overall ranking are all found in either the US or the UK, in which Harvard University remains at No. 1, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley at No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
Moreover, in September this year, both the VNU-Hanoi and VNU-Ho Chi Minh City were also named in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings.
VNU-Hanoi was also listed at the 472nd place in the rankings of the Best Global Universities for Physics, up 30 places from 502nd last year.
