Vietnamese researcher receives Germany’s prestigious Humboldt Research Award 2026
PANO - Prof., Dr. Phung Ho Hai, an expert in algebra and algebraic geometry, has become the first Vietnamese scientist to receive the Humboldt Research Award, one of Germany’s most prestigious honors for leading international researchers.
As the first Vietnamese scientist to receive this award, Prof., Dr. Phung Ho Hai has achieved a historic milestone.
The award honors researchers who have made long-term and far-reaching contributions in their fields, while also reflecting the scientific community’s confidence in their future research potential.

Each year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) grants up to 100 Humboldt Research Awards to outstanding international scientists from all disciplines in recognition of their lifetime achievements and academic excellence.
Prof., Dr. Phung Ho Hai completed his doctoral studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 1996. In 2004, he completed his professorship qualification at the University of Duisburg-Essen with a dissertation on quantum matrix groups.
His research spans quantum groups, Hopf algebras, and category theory. His academic works have been published in leading international journals such as Journal of Algebra, Annales de l'Institut Fourier, and Mathematische Zeitschrift.
In 2006, the German Research Foundation (DFG) awarded him the Von Kaven Award for his outstanding research on quantum groups.
