Among the newly-detected cases, 65 were in Ho Chi Minh City, eight in Hung Yen, two in Bac Giang, and one in Bac Kan. Seventy-one were recorded in quarantine sites or sealed off areas.

Taking samples for COVID-19 testing 

As of 12pm on June 27, Vietnam had documented a total of 13,641 locally transmitted cases and 1,760 imported ones.

Among the patients under treatment, 370 have tested negative once for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that causes the disease, 125 twice, and 152 thrice.

The ministry said 6,137 patients have been given the all-clear so far. The death toll has reached 75, with the latest being an 80-year-old man from HCM City.

The patient tested positive for the virus on June 10. He was immediately brought to Tan Binh District Hospital before being transferred to HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases as his condition worsened with symptoms such as difficulty breathing and a high fever.

Prior to the virus he was suffering from hypertension, gout disease, Cushing's syndrome and difficulty in moving around for years.

The cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia cause by COVID-19 and septic shock. He was declared dead at 5am on June 26.
