Rare turtle returned to sea
PANO – The Lang Co Border Post of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Border Guard Command and relevant forces on March 30 released a rare sea turtle back into its natural habitat.
Earlier on the same day, fisherman Hoang Van Huong from Lang Co town, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien-Hue province, found the 8kg turtle stuck in his net while fishing near the shore.
After receiving the information, the Lang Co Border Post sent troops to the scene and then reported the news to the management board of the North Hai Van forest.
Known as the olive ridley sea turtle (scientifically called Cheloniidae), the turtle is listed in the red book of endangered species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
After the turtle’s health was checked, it was released from Lang Co beach.
