This project is part of JICA's Support Program for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises, which aims to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing socio-economic challenges in developing countries. The initiative was proposed by Niinuma Co., Ltd., a company headquartered in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and was selected by JICA in 2020.

Niinuma Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company with a history of over 100 years. It established a subsidiary in Vietnam in 2019 and is expanding its business into LED lighting and solar power generation. Additionally, the company is actively engaged in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Due to the high cost and lengthy process of extending power transmission lines to remote villages, approximately 6,000 households in Yen Bai Province, including 1,400 in Mu Cang Chai district, have yet to have access to electricity for daily use.

The handover ceremony was attended by representatives of the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai district, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, JICA, and other stakeholders. During the event, JICA and Niinuma Co., Ltd. officially handed over 300 solar power generation and storage systems, along with an IoT monitoring system using cloud computing technology and other related equipment, to the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai district.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Mu Cang Chai district People's Committee Dao Ngoc Hung stated, thanks to this initiative, 300 households in the district now have access to electricity, and local communities can use lighting systems for organizing communal events.

A representative of Niinuma Co., Ltd. remarked, "Although the current power supply remains limited and has yet to fully meet the demand, based on experimental results and collected data, we hope to propose more optimal solutions in the future. We will continue negotiations to expand electricity supply to areas with no power supply, aiming to ensure that all households have access to electricity soon."
