PANO – The number of internet subscribers in Vietnam reached 4.4 million by the end of April 2012, up by 20 per cent from the same time last year, according to reports from the Ministry of Investment and Planning.

Statistics also show that the estimated number of internet users has stood at 32.2 million by the end of April, up by 13.9 per cent year on year.

The number of telephone registers has also seen a sharp rise

Over the past four months, there have been as many as 3.5 million new telephone subscribers, up by 20 per cent against the same time last year.

The number of telephone subscribers by the end of April 2012 has reached 134.4 million, up by 2.5 per cent, of which the number of fixed-line telephone subscribers was 15.3 million and the mobile ones represented the remainder.

Telecommunications managers said that more local people tend to use mobile telecommunications services and as a result, the number of fixed-line services subscribers increases slightly or even reduces sometimes, while the number of mobile or wireless telecommunication services subscribers rises steadily.
