The 43-year-old patient from Quang Nam received the organ from a brain-dead donor in Hai Duong. On July 17, after receiving information about the organ donation from the National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation, Prof., Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of the Hue Central Hospital, formed a coordination team to receive the organ and sent three doctors to Hanoi to collaborate with Viet Duc Hospital and the National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation to receive the organ.

After checking the heart transplant waiting list on the National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation’s website, doctors found that the patient named P.T.T. was the most suitable candidate.

After five hours, including the time of receiving and transporting the heart to the Hue Central Hospital, the heart of the brain-dead donor began beating strongly in the chest of the patient from Quang Nam. After 6 days of intensive care and recovery, the patient’s health is stable, and the heart functions normally in the patient’s chest.

Prof., Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep said that the success of the heart transplant demonstrated the outstanding achievements of the health sector and a clear proof of the human compassion.
