A project on “Developing a model of harvesting natural medicinal herbs by applying the Fairwind Standard in Vietnam” has been released by the wildlife trade monitoring network (TRAFFIC) in the Southeast Asia- Sub greater Mekong region program in association with Bac Kan Agency of forest management.

The project will focus on protecting endangered medicinal species due to wanton collecting and living environment degradation.

A project of the Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Cho Don District, Bac Kan Province will apply the Fairwind Standard to ensure sustainable development of medicinal and aromatic species in the natural environment.

TRAFFIC, in association with Bac Kan Agency of forest management and People Resources and Conservation Foundation (PRCF) will implemented this project, aiming to conserve biological diversification as well as improve living standard of people living upon natural resources and develop a popular model to apply throughout Vietnam.

Also, TRAFFIC will assist in training local workers on the management of wild plant resources, monitoring during gathering progress and techniques for sustainable harvesting and increasing products’ value.

This project will raise local people’s responsibility on natural resources protection, especially medicinal resources. Also, it will provide an opportunity for forest rangers to improve the biodiversity development and living standards.
