Hanoi Red Cross launches humanitarian month
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)’s chapter in Hanoi will strive to provide support for 7,000-10,000 disadvantaged people under the 2019 Humanitarian Month which was launched in the capital city on May 5.
The launch of the month, themed “Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading,” is part of activities to mark the Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).
At the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy affirmed that Hanoi always attaches much importance to social welfare work, and taking care of the policy beneficiary families, as well as impoverished and vulnerable people inside and outside the city.

He particularly hailed the contributions made by the VRSC’s Hanoi chapter to the building of houses for people who rendered services to the nation, and poor households in 2017 and 2018.
He took the occasion to ask competent authorities to pay more attention to the humanitarian work, and create favorable conditions for the operation of the VRSC at all levels.
At the ceremony, the VRSC’s Hanoi chapter received more than VND 15.3 billion (USD 661,600) donated by benefactors, enterprises and businessmen to help the needy.
An SMS campaign was also launched at the event to mobilize financial sources to support the poor in border areas.
Various meaningful activities were organized in the framework of the event, including handover of houses, wheelchairs, bicycles and health insurance cards to disadvantaged families and students, and honoring humanitarian organizations and clubs for the contributions to the community.
