Upon receiving the call, the KN-201 immediately set course toward the distressed ship and reached it within just 30 minutes. The crew promptly transferred the injured fisherman on board for emergency medical treatment. The fisherman was identified as Dao Van Thien, born in 1983, from Tan Hiep commune, An Giang Province.

When brought aboard, the fisherman showed signs of mild shock and high fever, with a pale face and heavy blood loss due to three broken teeth, a fractured mandible, and a deep laceration on his left cheek. The injury was caused when a trawl cable struck his face while he was hauling in the fishing net.

The medical team on the KN-201 assessed the situation as a serious injury that could be life-threatening without immediate intervention. They quickly administered first aid, measured his blood pressure, checked his vital signs, and began initial treatment.

After receiving emergency care, the fisherman’s condition gradually stabilized. By 7:30 a.m. the same day, his blood pressure and body temperature had returned to normal, and his wound had been disinfected, treated, and properly bandaged. The medical team provided additional medicine, bandages, and milk, and instructed the boat’s captain and crew on how to care for the injured man and safely bring him ashore for further treatment.

During the mission, the fisheries surveillance force also took the opportunity to disseminate information on IUU fishing regulations, guide fishermen on lawful fishing practices, and distribute leaflets, national flags, and encouragement for them to continue their offshore operations with confidence.

The rescue, medical support, and outreach efforts of Fisheries Surveillance Squadron No.2 not only demonstrated their high sense of responsibility and professional competence, but also reaffirmed the role of the Vietnamese fisheries surveillance force as a reliable support of the fishermen.
