Explosive ordnance education to be boosted in Vietnam
PANO – The Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC) and the Catholic Relief Services in Vietnam (CRS Vietnam) on March 23 signed a memorandum of understanding on the education of explosive ordnance risk in the country.
Addressing the event, Major General Tran Trung Hoa, Commander of the Engineer Corps and Director General of VNMAC underscored that in overcoming the consequences of unexploded ordnance (UXO), Vietnam has focused on dissemination and education to prevent explosive ordnance accidents. Over the past time, the activity has been implemented widely with the active participation of local agencies and international organizations.
For his part, CRS Vietnam’s Country Manager Truong Duc Tung stressed that the signing ceremony marked an important milestone in the cooperation between the two sides with the aim of overcoming war-left UXO in Vietnam.
Therefore, CRS Vietnam commits to provide technical assistance and funding for VNMAC to make plans to develop and complete the national strategy draft on explosive ordnance risk education. Meanwhile, the project would help raise VNMAC staff’s competence in the implementation of explosive ordnance risk education. In addition, CRS Vietnam will create favorable conditions for VNMAC to take part in events in the international mine action community such as workshops and training programs.
Activities in the framework of the memorandum of understanding will be carried out in line with laws, plans, and consultations to ensure reasonable allocation of donated resources. The project will last until the end of July, 2024.
