Central-level campaign “Clean up the sea 2019” launched
PANO – Around 2,000 youth union members and local people in Quang Ngai province gathered at a launching ceremony for the central-level campaign “Clean up the sea 2019” at Sa Ky port in the province’s Binh Son district on June 8.
The event was held by the Vietnam Youth Federation’s Central Committee, the National Volunteer Center, and the Siam Brothers Vietnam Joint Stock Company.
During the ceremony, the organizing panel handed over 280 sets of net to representatives from 28 coastal provinces and cities to collect waste on public beaches, presented bicycles to 10 poor students in Binh Son district’s Binh Chau commune and a waste collection vehicle to Binh Chau commune, and granted the campaign’s flags to owners of transport boats and trawlers in the commune.

According to the National Volunteer Center, the campaign “Clean up the sea 2019” under the theme “Kindness to the ocean” will be carried out in all 28 coastal cities and provinces across the country until August 31. It is expected to draw 100,000 people cleaning up the marine environment at 400 designated venues.
After the launching ceremony, the participants cleaned up polluted areas around Sa Ky port and raised tourists’ awareness of marine environmental protection, while local fishermen signed an agreement not to dump waste into the sea and then they used nets to collect waste on sea surface.
The campaign “Clean up the sea" was initiated and coordinated by the National Volunteer Center and the VTV24 News Center under the Vietnam Television in 2016 in 28 coastal provinces and cities. Over the past time, the campaign has attracted hundreds of thousands of local people, organizations, and enterprises in its responsive and worthwhile programs.
